Celebrate three major milestones with art, music and more
There's a big birthday celebration coming to Lake Macquarie and everyone's invited!
The Museum of Art and Culture, yapang (MAC yapang) is celebrating 25 years, and to mark the occasion, the much-loved cultural destination is throwing a birthday party filled with art, live music, creative workshops and plenty of family-friendly fun.
In Full Bloom will bring the community together on Saturday November 14, celebrating not only 25 years of MAC yapang, but also 30 years of the MAC yapang Sculpture Park and five years of the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima (MAP mima).
The festivities kick off at 10:30am with a Smoking Ceremony, official speeches, birthday cake and a performance by Bangai Kumba dance group.
Throughout the day, visitors can get creative with artist-led workshops, explore the Sculpture Park on guided tours, enjoy live portrait painting by Olive Crighton and catch Western swing tunes from the Hunter Valley Ramblers.
For those keen to take a little art home, Pass the Art Parcel offers ticket holders the chance to walk away with an original artwork, with every ticket guaranteed a prize. A silent auction featuring works by local and nationally recognised artists will also run from 7–22 November, raising funds for the MAC yapang collection.
Little creatives won't miss out either, with free family activities and face painting available for $5.
Visitors can also enjoy an artist talk with Fiona Lee, exploring her new Sculpture Park artwork High Tide, or settle in with pizza, coffee and treats from the newly reopened Awaba House. The MAC yapang bar will be serving Hunter Valley wines and a special birthday cocktail, the MACmosa.
Whether you've been visiting for years or have yet to discover MAC yapang, In Full Bloom is a chance to celebrate the artists, volunteers, supporters and community who have shaped this creative space.
Entry is free, with no bookings required for general admission. Simply turn up and join the celebrations!
