Jazz and chamber music collide in Newcastle

Christ Church Camerata is wrapping up its 2026 season with something a little different, bringing jazz vocalist and bassist Heather Price and her trio Round Midnight into the mix for All That Jazz.

On Sunday, November 8, the Newcastle chamber orchestra will join Heather Price, Terence Koo, and Ben Barnes for an afternoon blending jazz, classical music, and new works by Newcastle composers.

Held at the Newcastle Conservatorium’s Harold Lobb Concert Hall, the performance will see Price step into the role of guest conductor, while also performing on vocals and bass.

She’ll be joined by pianist Terence Koo and drummer Ben Barnes, with the program moving between jazz standards, classical works, and new arrangements written especially for the concert.

Expect music from Bach, including Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major, alongside a new arrangement of Satie’s Gymnopédie No. 1 for piano and strings.

The program also features new arrangements of jazz standards including Sway, I Got Rhythm, and Feelin’ Good, plus new music from Price, Koo, and Camerata Artistic Director David Banney, before finishing with Chick Corea’s Spain.

For Price, the concert also marks a personal return to the concert hall where she completed her music degree, bringing together her experience in jazz bass, orchestral bass, singing, and conducting in the one performance.
