The Tighes Hill store brings together an ever-changing collection of art, homewares, furniture, jewellery and design pieces from makers and brands across Australia and around the world. Everything is selected for its balance of form, function and personality.
Inside, contrasting textures, playful colours and sculptural forms sit beautifully alongside one another. Thoughtfully arranged, the space feels part store, part gallery, giving each piece its own moment.
Behind it all is German-born artist and interior stylist Nina Battley, whose love of art, interiors and design shapes everything from the pieces she selects to the way they are displayed. MiiO has a bit of a gallery vibe because every piece is honoured through the way it is displayed.
The MiiO philosophy is surrounded by the idea that what you buy for your home should be an investment that you treasure and keep.
“MiiO store is a dream come true for me. I have always been so passionate and inspired by interior design. There is nothing in MiiO store that I wouldn’t put in my own house.
“Everything I order I love, which gives me such joy and creative stimulation. I am very lucky to be working with so many creative brains, who are behind all these great brands, makers, and designers,” Nina said.
Officially opening their doors at the end of 2018, MiiO has been a passion project for Nina ever since she arrived in Newcastle in 2012. With her incredible career in art, spanning over twenty years, MiiO reflects on everything that makes Nina, well, Nina!

The store is filled with nothing but passion, happy colours, homewares, small furniture items, jewellery pieces by local Newcastle artists and never-ending gift ideas. The brands and designers shoppers can explore are from all over the world, including Australia.
From exquisite paintings and sculptures to unique kitchenware, bath, bed and tableware; MiiO’s range even expands into jewellery, fashion, cushions, books, bags, and so much more. One thing shoppers can be certain of – you won’t find her products anywhere else in Newcastle.
MiiO sits within walking distance of local favourites including Praise Urban Joe, Cross Keys, Unravel Studio, An Apple a Day, and The Oak, making a visit the perfect excuse to spend some time wandering around eclectic Tighes Hill.
Open Tuesday to Friday 10am-4pm, and Saturday 10am-2pm (or by appointment), lovers of unique one-off pieces with a creative edge need to pencil in a date to swing by for a visit to Nina’s MiiO.
