Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club is giving you even more reason to settle in by the water.

Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club has always had one of the city’s best seats on the harbour. Pull up a chair by the row of bi-fold doors and you’re right amongst the harbourside action – and now, you can get a whole lot closer.

Launching in time for the October long weekend, NCYC’s new promenade deck area lets you take a seat over the harbour, and with a new pizza oven firing and a fresh menu rolling out, there are plenty of reasons to revisit.

Offering uninterrupted harbour views that stretch across to the city, the concept of the promenade deck was simple – take full advantage of one of NCYC’s best features, and create more space to settle in by the water, as NCYC Operations Manager Cameron Burns chatted us through,

“We wanted to expand the outside drinking and dining options, and give our guests the opportunity to enjoy being on the water.”

“The promenade deck will be in place until the end of February, to give locals and visitors the chance to experience the new dining space. The longer-term vision is much bigger – around three times the size, with timber decking, a roof, and its own outdoor bar and kitchen.”

For the meantime, we’ll happily take the table over the harbour and a drink in hand.

The arrival of the promenade deck was also timed nicely with the launch of NCYC’s new Italian pizza oven. Shipped directly from Italy, pizzas are now a major part of the club’s new menu and will be available for both dine-in and takeaway from 12pm to 9pm, seven days a week.

It means you can drop in at 3pm for a pizza and a beer, settle in for an early dinner, or grab one to take home. But pizza isn’t taking over entirely.

The new menu continues to focus on seafood and fresh produce, alongside pasta dishes and familiar Australian favourites. Cameron explained that the inspiration comes from the feel of a European summer, only with Newcastle Harbour as the backdrop.

“We want to create that Italian coastline feel – lots of spritzes, fresh, light pizzas, pastas, and seafood. It’s about bringing that European summer, yacht club experience to the waterfront here in Newcastle.”

The drinks list follows suit, with more cocktails, Champagne, rosé, and international wines joining plenty of Hunter Valley options.

“We want NCYC to be the kind of venue you can drop into at pretty much any point in the day, whether it’s with the family for pizza and a spritz on the promenade deck, after-work drinks, or dinner with a big group. We’ve extended the restaurant’s trading hours to accommodate all kinds of social occasions.” said Cameron.

NCYC is also one of the few Newcastle venues catering to larger groups, comfortably hosting bookings of 20, 30 or even more people without locking guests into a set menu.

With warmer weather on the way, a new promenade deck sitting over the harbour, and pizzas coming straight from the oven all afternoon, NCYC has given us a few more reasons to head down to the waterfront.
