Newcastle East favourite is now open after dark

Just a two-minute walk from Newcastle Beach, Moor Newcastle East has been a local favourite for more than 11 years, drawing regulars in for morning coffee, leisurely brunches, and house-made treats.

Now, the neighbourhood cafe is staying open after dark, with dinner, drinks and a new Happy Hour joining the offering three nights a week.

Established in 2015, Moor has grown from a morning coffee stop into an all-day dining destination, built around Mediterranean and Moroccan flavours, global influences, and warm hospitality.

That approach runs throughout the daytime menu, where Turkish eggs and Middle Eastern-spiced lamb sit alongside Japanese-inspired okonomiyaki, Mexican rice bowls, and Moor’s signature shakshuka – oven-baked eggs with labneh, herbs, chermoula and za’atar, served with warm pita.

Brunch favourites also include avocado toast with feta, dukkah, and blistered cherry tomatoes, lamb souvlaki with mint yoghurt, and chilli crisp scrambled eggs with sesame and garlic flatbread.

House-made baking is another big part of the cafe, with cakes, muffins, and croissants made in-house. Expect regular rotations of treats including Persian love cake, Middle Eastern orange and almond cake, carrot cake, and Ginger Pistachio Oat Crunch.

Coffee is equally central, with locally roasted Floozy Coffee served alongside cold brew, sticky chai, and a range of iced matcha flavours. During winter, Moor’s Pistachio Latte has become a particular favourite.

Now, that daytime offering is getting an evening counterpart.

Moor is staying up after dark

As the sun goes down, Moor is taking on a different feel.

From Thursday to Saturday, the cafe will stay open into the evening, bringing a dinner menu centred around shared plates, Mediterranean and Moroccan flavours and the same warm approach that has shaped the venue since it opened.

Before dinner, locals can drop in for Happy Hour from 3pm to 6pm, with cocktails ranging from Aperol Spritzes and Espresso Martinis to spicy margaritas, piña coladas, and old fashioneds. Local beers and Hunter Valley wines round out the offering, while a selection of mocktails means the evening caters to everyone.

Dinner follows from 6pm to 9pm, with a menu designed for sharing.

Expect warm marinated olives, pumpkin and feta arancini, halloumi saganaki with oregano and hot honey, chilli salt squid, lamb skewers with sumac and mint yoghurt, pork belly skewers with tonkatsu and sesame, and fish tacos with black bean, avocado and corn salsa.

There are a few more unexpected additions, too, including pork and chive dumplings, sashimi with jalapeño and spinach gazpacho, and shakshuka burrata with chorizo.

Still a local favourite, now open longer

Moor isn't leaving behind the community that has made it a Newcastle East fixture. The cafe remains dog-friendly throughout the day and into dinner, with outdoor seating available for guests bringing their four-legged companions along.

More than 11 years after first opening its doors, the move into dinner feels like a natural next step – extending the food, coffee, and hospitality that locals already know into a new part of the day.

Whether you’re stopping in after a morning swim for a coffee and house-baked croissant, settling in for brunch, dropping by for Happy Hour or sharing plates and cocktails with friends, Moor Newcastle East now has you covered from morning through to night.
