The owners of The Pav have announced it’s on the market
There's a change on the horizon for one of Carrington’s favourite hospitality spots, with the owners of the Pav announcing that the venue is officially on the market.
Initially launching in February 2025, bringing their vision for the Pav to life, owners Matt and Chris are ready to hand over the reins, with new trading approvals opening up plenty of possibilities for the Carrington venue.
Since launching, the Pav has become a welcoming space for locals to grab a coffee, settle in for breakfast or lunch, or catch up with friends or family.
Located on Young Street, the venue was brought to life by Chris and Steph of Slingtown, alongside Matt and Jess, with a shared vision of creating somewhere that offered more than just good food and coffee.
Now, Matt and Chris have decided it's time for someone new to take over, as they look to focus on their families and other business interests.
"We feel like the time is right for a new custodian of The Pav, we love this space, and we've put our heart and soul into it," Matt said.
While the decision comes with mixed emotions, the pair are proud of what they've created and excited to see what the next owner might bring to the space.
"We're genuinely proud of what we've achieved here, we really feel the space is a culmination of what we have learnt about venue design over the years."

A new chapter for The Pav
The timing of the sale comes as The Pav has received 12-month approval to trade until 10pm, 7 days a week, alongside an on-premises liquor licence with the same approved hours.
It's an exciting development for the venue, opening the door to possibilities that Matt and Chris had originally expected to explore themselves. Their plans included intimate dinners, private events, local live music, poetry readings, and other community-focused gatherings.
While they won't be the ones bringing these ideas to life, the approvals give the next owner an opportunity to take the venue in a new direction.
The building itself also offers plenty of flexibility, with creative studios upstairs and approval for artisanal food and beverage operation downstairs. According to Matt, the space could lend itself to anything from a coffee roastery or boutique brewery, to a distillery, winery or creative space.
"The original plan was to be a small roastery with an element of retail and community minded events. We always had the saying that you would come here for one reason and find many more to come back."
With the approvals already in place, the pair believe the venue presents an opportunity for someone looking to establish a hospitality or creative business without starting entirely from scratch.
What's next for Matt and Chris?
For Matt, the next chapter involves an exciting new role with Rivvia Projects, an opportunity he said was too good to pass up.
Chris, meanwhile, is looking forward to a change of pace following the closure of Slingtown. Together with Steph, they’ll be focusing on their Newcastle East cafe, Goodbrother, and spending more time growing food on their farm.
As for what they’ll miss most about the Pav, it's the people who have made the venue what it is.
"The people. Our team, our customers and everybody that has made The Pav what it is today," Matt said.
And, of course, the building itself.
"I absolutely love this space. It's gorgeous."

Business as Usual
For those wondering what this news means for their regular coffee, or weekend catch-up, there’s no need to say goodbye just yet.
The Pav will continue trading as normal while the owners look for someone to take over, with the team staying on throughout the process.
While the hospitality industry continues to face its challenges, Matt and Chris remain optimistic about the opportunities for small businesses and the importance of supporting local venues.
For now, it's business as usual at The Pav, with plenty of coffee, good food and familiar faces still to be found on Young Street.
